BUUF SPRING HIGHWAY PICKUP
By Duncan Fowler
We have committed BUUF to doing two highway pickups a year on our stretch of Highway 55. (It starts at Target and runs 2 miles toward the Cities, just past Norm’s Hideaway Bar.) There is currently construction on Highway 55, so it might shorten our job a bit.
We need a minimum of 16 folks to be able to do this well in a reasonable amount of time. And, of course, the more the merrier!
The plan would be to meet at the Fowlers at 10 a.m. the day of the pickup for goodies and to watch the mandatory MNDOT safety video. We the move to the Target parking lot, get bags, safety vests, and sticks with nails to help in getting the litter. Pair up in teams and do our thing!
I apologize for being so late in setting this up, but as most of you know Sally and I were on a long RV trip so this is the earliest I could make this happen.
Below are a series of dates. Please look at them and let me know all of the dates that work for you. That way I can find the dates where we can get the most folks. (If you are available during the week and we have enough volunteers, we can certainly do it during weekdays. Let me know if weekdays also work for you.)
May 16 and 17
May 23, 24, and 25 (NOTE THE 25TH IS MEMORIAL DAY)
June 6 and 7
June 13 and 14
June 20 and 21 (NOTE THE 21ST IS FATHERS DAY)
June 27 and 28
Please note that Sally and I have to be in Oregon on June 15 and it’s not clear what our return dates will be. My preference would be that we do it on May 16 or 17, the Memorial Day weekend, or June 6 and 7.
If we can’t do it then, I would like a volunteer to coordinate the litter pickup while I am gone.
Send me an email (DuncFowler@gmail.com) as soon as possible letting me know all the dates you can come. Please include how many people can come with you.
Thanks much, folks!!! – Dunc

WHAT DO YOU WANT OUR MEETING PLACE TO BE?
The BUUF Board has been having a spirited email discussion about our meeting place. This discussion was precipitated by the need to update our listing in the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce directory. For now, our listing will direct interested people to our website, BUUF.org.
The BUUF met at the Buffalo Community Center for many years. Then late last year, we voted to change our meeting place to Huikko’s Event Center where we can gather for supper before the meeting. There are both advantages and disadvantages to both places.
What do you think? What do you like or dislike about either meeting place? Do you have a suggestion for another place to meet? What do you think our meetings should include that we’re not including now? What do you think we should eliminate from our meetings? Please reply to this email or contact one of your Board members.

May Day
– by Sara Teasdale (1884-1933)

A delicate fabric of bird song
   Floats in the air,
The smell of wet wild earth
   Is everywhere.
Red small leaves of the maple
   Are clenched like a hand,
Like girls at their first communion
   The pear trees stand.
Oh I must pass nothing by
   Without loving it much,
The raindrop try with my lips,
   The grass with my touch.
For how can I be sure
   I shall see again
The world on the first of May
   Shining after the rain?
